This brief summarizes findings from the CHOICES Learning Collaborative Partnership simulation model of implementing Safe Routes to School (SRTS) initiatives in elementary and middle schools in the Houston Independent School District. SRTS aims to help children safely walk and bicycle to school through infrastructure improvements, education, and promotional activities. The analysis compared the costs and outcomes over a 10-year time horizon (2017-2027) of implementing SRTS in Houston with the costs and outcomes associated with not…

This brief summarizes findings from the CHOICES Learning Collaborative Partnership simulation model of implementing an Active Physical Education (PE) program in school districts participating in the Live Well Allegheny initiative in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania. Live Well Allegheny Schools will commit that 50% of PE class time be dedicated to moderate-to-vigorous physical activity. This analysis compared the costs and outcomes of the implementation of the Active PE program in designated school districts over a 10-year time horizon with the costs…

ArticlePublication 2020Equity & Distributional Impact on Stunting of a Nutritional Package, Children Aged 6-36 Months in China: Modeling Study Findings
This article evaluates the potential impact of rolling out the Ying Yang Bao (YYB) nutritional …
This article evaluates the potential impact of rolling out the Ying Yang Bao (YYB) nutritional package on child stunting across provinces and wealth groups in China, focusing on equity. Utilizing data from the China Family Panel Studies and extended cost-effectiveness analysis methods, the study estimates the distributional impact of a 12-month YYB program for children aged 6-36 months across 25 provinces and two wealth groups. Results indicate that a 75% coverage of YYB could avert…

This article, published in Health Policy and Planning, examines the cost-effectiveness of several maternal and neonatal health (MNH) interventions in an Ethiopian setting. The authors employ a static life table model to estimate the health impact of a 20% increase in intervention coverage relative to baseline. The results indicate that many MNH interventions are highly cost-effective. This evidence can be useful to inform the ongoing essential health services package revision in Ethiopia.

This report from the World Bank is the second volume of the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) series. It focuses primarily on maternal conditions, childhood illnesses, and malnutrition, addressing topics from maternal mortality and morbidity, to acute illness and undernutrition in children under five, to the transition to older childhood and the illnesses that accompany this transition. The Disease Control Priorities Network (DCP) promotes and supports the use of economic evaluation for priority setting…

This report from the World Bank is the eighth volume of the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) series and focuses on the health and well-being of children and adolescents, ages 5 to 21, worldwide. It provides estimates of mortality and morbidity among youth, examines the impact of interventions during that period on health and development, features successful community- and school-based health and nutrition interventions, reports on platforms that promote early childhood development, and highlights…

This report from the World Bank is the first volume of the Disease Control Priorities, …
This report from the World Bank is the first volume of the Disease Control Priorities, Third Edition (DCP3) series. Essential Surgery presents data on the surgical burden of disease, disability, congenital abnormalities, and trauma, as well as the health impact and economic analysis of procedures. This report identifies 44 procedures that address substantial needs, are cost effective, and are feasible to implement in low- and middle-income countries. If made universally available, these 44 procedures could…

The authors applied a generalized cost-effectiveness analysis (GCEA) approach, applying a null reference case, in …
The authors applied a generalized cost-effectiveness analysis (GCEA) approach, applying a null reference case, in which the effects of currently implemented interventions were subtracted from current rates of burden, in order to identify the most efficient package of interventions that could be applied to Road Traffic Injuries (RTIs). They used a population model to estimate costs and effectiveness of interventions over a 100 year time frame in eastern sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. All heath…

In this teaching pack on Using Test Information I, students review the performance of a dichotomous test and the relationship between sensitivity and specificity, calculate likelihood ratios to describe test performance, and conduct probability revision using the odds-LR form of Bayes. Materials include an instructor's note, videos, companion slides, a glossary, an annotated bibliography, and sample exercises. Learning Objectives Calculate four conditional probabilities describing the performance of a dichotomous test, and explain the…
