EMR20: Statistical Analysis, Part 1. Relationship between Two Variables

2018

In this first of three videos on basic statistical analysis, Professor David Cutler discusses the relationship between two variables using data from a national survey on education and self-reported health. He walks students through the steps of a regression analysis, and the conceptual and mathematical foundation of estimating a regression line. At the conclusion, he reviews the interpretation of the stylized analysis.

The second and third videos in this collection, shown below, address how to assess the importance of the relationship, and how to differentiate correlation from causation.

Videos prototyped and produced in collaboration with the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator at Harvard University (GHELI) as part of a residency in pedagogical innovation and multimodal learning.
