AcademyHealth

2024

AcademyHealth formed in June 2000, from a merger between the Alpha Center, a health policy resource center providing analysis, facilitation, education, and training, and the Association for Health Services Research, a non-profit professional society for those with a commitment to health services research, whose mission involved educating consumers and policymakers about the importance of health services research, securing funding for the field, and providing networking and professional development opportunities.

AcademyHealth acts as a broker of information, bringing together stakeholders to address the current and future needs of an evolving health system, inform health policy and practice, and translate evidence into action. As the professional home and national organization for health services researchers, policymakers, and health care practitioners and stakeholders, AcademyHealth – together with its members – increases the understanding of methods and data used in the field, enhances the professional skills of researchers and research users, and expands awareness.

AcademyHealth maintains a digital repository of excerpts from leading journals, provides information on funding opportunities from foundations and government agencies, information on developments in the field of health services research, recognizes individuals who contribute to health services research and policy with awards, hosts a calendar of health services events, and provides a list of upcoming training offerings including: webinars, Google Hangouts, and seminars on topics such as health equity, public & population health, access to care, quality improvement, costs of care and using health data.

Additional members only benefits include: discounts on AcademyHealth meetings and conferences, membership to 18 topic-specific interest groups, access to hundreds of health services research and health policy job postings at AcademyHealth’s career center, and access to over 400 nationwide scholarships, internships, and fellowships.
