Operational Research Society

2024

The Operational Research Society (ORS) was founded over 60 years ago as a successor to the Operations Research Club that had been set up in 1948. The UK’s OR Society is the oldest-established learned society catering to the Operational Research (O.R.) profession, and one of the largest in the world, with 2,700 members from 66 countries. Core activities of ORS include publishing journals to disseminate the latest developments in O.R., and organizing national, international and specialist conferences. The Journal of the Operational Research Society is published 12 times a year by Palgrave Macmillan on behalf of the OR Society. The Journal presents papers which cover the theory, practice, history or methodology of O.R. as well as practical case studies illustrating applications of O.R. to real problems.

In addition to open source materials available on their website, ORS makes available to members a catalogue of papers from every reputable O.R. journal world wide and they enable members to share their work through a Document Repository containing presentations, case studies, lecture notes and many other types of document. Additionally, ORS sponsors educational activities such as summer schools for researchers, and funds research projects on a wide variety of topics.
